Umar Akmal will miss Pakistan’s three-match Twenty20 series with England after being dropped on disciplinary grounds.
Apparently, the PCB took notice of media reports that Akmal was allegedly involved in immoral activities during a party in a house in Hyderabad, where he was accompanied by former Pakistan Under-19 captain Azeem Ghumman.
He also said that he felt let down as no one from the PCB except chief selector Haroon Rasheed had contacted him twice since he last played for Pakistan in April in Bangladesh. A few even dubbed her as under-educated shameless ‘Mujrawatcher’.
In 2009, Rafatullah was part of the world-record second-wicket stand in first-class cricket when he added 580 with Aamer Sajjad for Water and Power Development Authority.
Umar has so far played 65 T20 matches for Pakistan, the most recent being in Zimbabwe on September 29, and has an average of 27.35.
According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the PCB has taken a lenient action against the 38-year-old off-break bowler by suspending the contract and holding monthly retainer.
Khan said Ajmal had been supported in his efforts to alter his bowling action. Fellow all-rounder Bilal Asif is on stand-by and will replace Wasim if he fails to prove his fitness.
“Basically our players are not educated, majority are school drop outs, so this becomes a problem and we will address that as well”.
Meanwhile, Iftikhar Ahmed has been drafted in to Pakistan’s one-day global squad to fill the vacancy left by the veteran Younus Khan, who caused surprise by announcing his retirement on Wednesday.
