Akpom scores deciding goal as Arsenal tops MLS All-Stars 2-1
But twenty-year-old Gunner Chuba Akpom couldn’t help feeling a rush of excitement as he stepped onto the pitch alongside his childhood heroes in the MLS All-Star Game at Avaya Stadium on Thursday night.

Campbell’s unconventional run-up belied a powerful spot kick that beat Blake cleanly to the goalkeeper’s left.
“I hate losing”, Drogba said. “And I always say that the goal that I score and then we lose, for me that doesn’t count”, the Montreal Impact striker said.
Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to sign an attacking player before the end of the summer transfer window. There will definitely be some scores to settle on the pitch, the All-Stars won’t give up this game easy and Arsenal will want to show they’re ready for the fight with their Premier League season kicking off on August 13 when they open against Liverpool.
One thing that many failed to notice after the game was the fact that Rob Holding played the full 90 minutes in San Jose – the only player to do so.
In his aftermatch comments, Cech said he expected Wenger to bring in the right players necessary to improve Arsenal’s bid to win a first Premier League title since 2004 without wasting money on panic buys.
The 24-year-old forward converted on a penalty kick in the 11th minute to give the Gunners a 1-0 lead in the MLS All-Star game.
The MLS squad, which was picked by San Jose Earthquakes boss Dominic Kinnear and league commissioner Don Garber, included Andrea Pirlo, David Villa and Drogba, who all started in San Jose. “I believe that we know what we have to do, because we were second previous year, we had 18 teams behind us”, Wenger told reporters.
“But we’ve seen that there are many good players here, you got David Villa, Kaka, (Andrea) Pirlo, Giovinco and other players like (Liam) Ridgewell who we know well in England, so there are many good players right now in the U.S.”. “I would have loved to have won the game and made this experience a little more positive”. “He’s a victor and I think that he’ll be like that until the end of his life”, Wenger said about the 38-year-old.
“There are also a few players who did not play [against the MLS All-Star team], like [Santi] Cazorla and of course [Mesut] Ozil and [Aaron] Ramsey are at home”. “These players come for a show, they’re happy to be together”. It’s not life or death.
