Al Gore endorses Hillary Clinton for president

Gore cited Clinton’s experience as a reason he supported her, but also praised her for recognizing the dangers of global warming.

Former Vice President Al Gore may not be attending the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this week, but he is for the first time endorsing Hillary Clinton for president.

Despite having been a previous Democratic nominee, Gore has become increasingly absent from the political stage and instead engaged in environmental activism.

A spokeswoman for Gore has said the former vice president has “obligations in Tennessee” that have prevented him from being able to attend the convention.

A Gore staffer told Politico the former VP would endorse the candidate who got the Democratic nomination this year, which happens at the end of the party’s convention.

Gore lost his home state of Tennessee.

On July 25, Gore took to Twitter to announce that he would be voting for Clinton.

The Tennessee ran for president himself in 2000, losing to Republican George W. Bush in a tight contest that came down Florida where a vote recount was ultimately halted by the U.S. Supreme Court. He spoke at the 2004 convention for Democratic nominee John Kerry and in the 2008 for Obama.
