Muhammad (pictured, 98) was one of Miami’s top returning players on the defensive line.
Miami’s rebuilding hopes took to a huge jolt Saturday morning when red-shirt junior defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad and senior linebacker Jermaine Grace were permanently dismissed from the Hurricanes football program for violating NCAA rules.
Grace was also penciled in to start along the Hurricanes’ defensive front.
The two were being investigated by the school for allegedly receiving extra benefits from a luxury auto rental agency. Muhammad recorded 54 tackles, 8.5 for loss, and five sacks previous year, while Grace led the team with 79 tackles and also had a third-best five pass deflections.
Miami has dismissed veterans Al-Quadin Muhammad and Jermaine Grace for violations of NCAA rules, the program announced Saturday.
In a statement, the school said it had reached its decision after consulting with outside legal counsel and after discussions with NCAA enforcement staff.
Miami also said in its statement it will continue providing financial aid to Muhammad and Grace through graduation.

Junior linebacker Juwon Young was suspended indefinitely in June stemming from the same investigation and has since transferred to Marshall University. Young, a junior, reportedly was not honest with school officials. Coley had 47 catches for 689 yards and four touchdowns past year. Richt replaces Al Golden, who was sacked during the 2015 season – his fifth with the program. Florida State comes to Miami on October 8.
