Ala. convention delegates will stick with Donald Trump

Trump has since hired Patrick Davis, a big name Republican operative based in Colorado Springs, as his campaign’s state director, and brought on former Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Robert Blaha as a co-chair.

The Republican convention begins Monday in Cleveland.

“I’m going to go and stir the pot”, said Bearden, a conservative activist and former state lawmaker from St. Charles. “Never Trump is nevermore”.

“…[T] he right of each delegate and alternate delegate to vote their conscience on all matters shall not be infringed or impaired by any state party rule, state law, ruling by the national convention chair or any other method”. “They are fishing for information with all the delegates”. The RNC and the Trump campaign banded together, agreeing to help preserve policies enacted by Priebus during his six years as chairman and stop attempts to unbind delegates to the results of state caucuses and primaries. Party officials are seeking to avoid further upheaval as the November election approaches.

But the movement failed to change the rules to allow delegates to vote for the nominee of their choice, and Ashley, Michael Garrison and delegates Ben Clymer Jr. and Gina Nestande said they’re committed to Trump. Ted Cruz, R-Ted Cruz has 559 delegates and has not endorsed Trump. “But unless he gets back into the race, there evidently won’t be any opportunity to vote for him”.

Bearden was co-chairman of the Cruz campaign in Missouri.

The prospect of that is unlikely, and she would need 2,472 delegates to defeat Mr Trump.

It’s questionable whether he actually could do that. And they recognize that Donald Trump beat 16 other candidates in a record turnout, he won with a record number of votes, and that denying Donald Trump the nomination through some backroom deal would destroy the Republican Party.

“This impressive lineup of veterans, political outsiders, faith leaders and those who know Donald Trump the best – his family and longtime friends – represent a cross-section of real people facing the same challenges as every American household”, said Trump spokesman Jason Miller. Doing so requires getting at least 28 signatures from members of the convention rules committee.

Sanford also shared an open letter to Trump supporters written by Nebraska Sen.

“I feel like as a candidate you agreed to that, so why are we trying to back that up now?”

This year’s convention has also generated much interest for the number of high-ranking party members who have made a decision to steer clear of the festivities and Trump’s official crowning, among them former presidents George H. and George W. Bush and former party nominees John McCain and Mitt Romney.
