Alabama Knocks Out Michigan State 38-0 in Cotton Bowl
With the victory, Alabama advances to the CFP National Championship Game against the No. 1 Clemson Tigers set for Monday, January 11, 2016, at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Up until the first touchdown, the deepest penetration was Alabama reaching the Spartans’ 45-yard line. The Crimson Tide entered the game as the No. 1 rushing defense in the nation and lived up to that as backup quarterback Damion Terry was the leading rusher with 14 yards on one carry. That includes a 42-41 win over Baylor in last season’s Cotton Bowl, when he threw the game-winning TD with 10 second left to complete a three-touchdown comeback in the fourth quarter. Calvin Ridley was a huge difference maker with eight catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
After Spartans cornerback Darian Hicks left the game following a collision with Henry, Saban immediately went after his sub, Jermaine Edmondson.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was a member of Alabama’s 1992 national championship team.
Alabama is playing for another title after being upset by Ohio State in the semifinals of the inaugural College Football Playoff.
Clemson sealed its berth in college football’s championship game by beating Oklahoma 37-17 in the Orange Bowl on Thursday, with quarterback Deshaun Watson running for one touchdown, passing for another and accounting for 332 yards.
“I love this team, I really do”, Alabama coach Nick Saban said on ESPN after the game.
Yes, order was restored: Alabama has won more games here this season at AT&T Stadium (two, counting the opener against Wisconsin) than the Dallas Cowboys (one).
Adam Griffith added three more points on a 47-yard field goal with less than two minutes to play in the opening half.
Michigan State made it to the College Football Playoff by the slimmest of margins, but it exits with a more lopsided loss than anyone could have imagined. The Crimson Tide are 12-3 in the series, having won the last 12 – including seven by shutout.
Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook, 34-4 as a starter, is 9 of 18 for 133 yards and an interception just before the break. Yep, Derrick Henry was more than OK, scored his 24th and 25th touchdowns of the year.
Alabama had 440 yards of total offense compared to 239 for Michigan State.
Jake Coker was almost flawless for the Tide (13-1).
Cook completed 19 of 39 passes for 210 yards in his final collegiate game.
When Cook finally found a rhythm and had the Spartans at the Alabama 12 late in the first half, he underthrew Aaron Burnbridge for an easy interception by Cyrus Jones near the goal line. The ball went out of bounds and the Spartans were credited with their first of two sacks. The last time Michigan State was shut out was in a 14-0 loss at Michigan in October 2000.
“I think previous year when we came to this game, we were just happy to take part in the game”, Saban said. Coker went for a career-high 286 yards.
The Tide came out trying to loosen up a Michigan State defense that typically sells out to stop the run. Nobody in the Michigan State secondary had an answer for Calvin Ridley in particular, but reality is that wide receivers were running free in the secondary all night.

“I’m going to watch my team on my TV at home I’ll be all decked out in my crimson I hope we can beat the tigers”, said Matthew Stinebaugh.
