Someone took a picture of him doing the famous Heisman pose and sent it to him.

“Coming into Alabama from Florida, they all accepted me”, Henry said of his Alabama teammates during his Heisman speech, CBSSports.com reported. “I’m sure I’ll see y’all again here next year”.

Alabama running back Derrick Henry was named the 2015 Heisman Trophy victor on Saturday in NY, while Stanford standout Christian McCaffrey finished second in the voting.

Alabama running back Derrick Henry has taken home this year’s Heisman Trophy.

Prior to the official announcement, the NFL Mocks staff discussed who we thought should win. Henry earned 378 first-place votes, McCaffrey 290, and Watson 148. He rushed for 1,847 yards, caught 540 yards worth of passes and gained 1,109 yards on kickoff and punt returns to set the all-time NCAA record for all-purpose yards. And its games regularly air on national TV, giving its players more face time in front of voters. He also carried the ball for 887 yards, scoring 41 total touchdowns. Watson’s third-place finish is the highest ever for a Tiger, and he was the first Heisman finalist in school history.

But despite his clear athletic ability, everyone said his best quality wasn’t on display on the field. It only defines how good he was that year. “I think it’s the feeling that any parent would get when their children do something really, really special. It doesn’t change my attitude”.

Overall, McCaffrey finished a distant second while Watson checked in at third in the voting.

Henry planted a big kiss on the trophy before lifting it above his head for the first time. “Every time I walk through there, I look at (Ingram’s trophy) all the time”.

“I would say not anybody could represent the University of Alabama, our team, our program, in any more of a first-class way than what Derrick Henry has”, Alabama coach Nick Saban said.

Watson didn’t come away empty-handed this week.

“It’s kind of a surreal feeling that somebody that I played with is up for this really prestigious award”, said Dillon Reinkensmeyer, a senior who played with McCaffrey.

Still, just getting to NY was a victory.

All three had strong cases, but despite the long list of possible candidates, Henry cleaned up during awards week. He’ll likely be one of the front-runners in 2016. Henry was the best player in college football and his numbers support that claim. He is expected to cross the 2,000-yard mark for the season when Alabama plays Michigan State in the College Football Playoff.

“It was a dream come true”, Henry said at his press conference at midtown-Manhattan’s Marriott Marquis Hotel.

“Since I’ve been a kid it’s been a lifelong goal and a dream of mine and I’m just so thankful”, the 21-year-old said at the presentation.
