Alabama’s Derrick Henry named Heisman Trophy finalist
Henry will then leave for NY in advance of Saturday’s Heisman Trophy presentation ceremony.

Over the past few weeks, these three individuals looked like the three sure-fire finalists, though there were other players, such as Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield and Navy Midshipmen quarterback Keenan Reynolds, that seemed deserving of invitations to NY.
Henry set the SEC record for rushing yards in a season while leading the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff.
People don’t always remember many years later who won an SEC title, but they always remember national titles. QB Deshaun Watson Watson isn’t just the quarterback of the top-ranked Tigers, college football’s last remaining unbeaten team. He carried much of the offense during the Auburn and Florida games, recording a total of 460 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Jim Plunkett captured Stanford’s only Heisman Trophy in 1970. While McCaffrey may not have the types of numbers and records that Derrick Henry of Alabama does, his performance alone in Stanford’s 41-22 Pac-12 Championship game win over USC (8-5) made him a top Heisman candidate.
Yes, he faded down the stretch while Alabama junior running back Derrick Henry had four phenomenal games when the spotlight was shining the brightest.
Even if the voting doesn’t fully reflect it when it’s revealed on Saturday night, all three of these players – McCaffrey, Watson, and Henry – have put together incredible seasons.
He also hasn’t had a bad game yet this year, averaging 5.9 yards per carry, along with 23 touchdowns.
First, the finalists, who were revealed on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” on Monday night, The Associated Press reported. “He has been the leader of the only undefeated team in college football in every way”.
“To be the single season LSU record holder for rushing yards, I think that was quite an accomplishment for him, really for anybody”, Miles said.
The year of the running back played out that way with most of the conversation for the Heisman trophy surrounding the guys that tote the rock. By percentage, that ranks as the closest Heisman vote in history.
The 6-foot-1, 232-pound Matakevich had 126 tackles this season – including 15 for a loss – and, along with five interceptions, 4½ sacks and five pass breakups, helped lead the Owls to a surprising 10-3 record and a berth in the Boca Raton Bowl against Toledo. He reminded us what a workhorse running back was as the Tide rode him to the SEC title.
Just two years and one day. The Cardinal coaching staff used McCaffrey as a battering ram, and the attention he required from the Irish’s defense opened up big plays for the rest of the Cardinal offense in a 38-36 win.
