Alabama vs. Mississippi State: Inside The Stats

“They have a good defensive line and that’s what they do well, pass rush and they can stop the run”, running back Brandon Holloway said.

“That’s the kind of back that he is”.

“I think in a close game, it’s always turnovers and explosive plays that usually have a huge impact”, Tide coach Nick Saban said Monday.

“Once he gets rolling, he’s fast”, Saban said. “I think he continues to improve as a passer – his passing efficiency, looking off people, doing the little things in the passing game that make a difference”. What you can always tell is, he outruns the angle.

Notable numbers: Alvin Kamara finished with 127 yards rushing on 15 carries with two TDs, recording his second 100-yard game of the season.

Jonathan Allen led the way with three sacks against the Bulldogs, while Ryan Anderson, A’Shawn Robinson and Tim Williams each had two.

“Give them credit, it wasn’t like they were fancy blitzes or any of that stuff going on”, Mullen said. “We had to get where we could run the ball better, period”.

Football life for the Crimson Tide won’t get much easier from here on out.

Alabama did, however, suffer a loss on Saturday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Alabama struck first on a 69-yard punt from cornerback Cyrus Jones.

Moving on: Alabama exhales with a non-conference home breather vs. Charleston Southern, and Mississippi State visits red-hot Arkansas. “They have five-star players across the board”, Mullen began.

Later in the second, Coker found Ridley who turned a short pass into a 60-yard touchdown behind blocks from Kenyan Drake and ArDarius Stewart.

Alabama gained 199 of its 379 yards on the three touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Treon Harris passed for 256 yards and one touchdown while being intercepted twice and junior running back Kelvin Taylor rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown. All four of Bama’s touchdown plays were for 60 or more yards. I’m proud of our team.

They also don’t make them like Henry, who was contained by Mississippi State (7-3, 3-3 SEC) for most of Saturday but not all of it. The run accounted for 74 of his 88 first-half yards rushing. The first touchdown stretched the lead to 21-3 and the final score put the game on ice. Alabama’s goal-line stand set the tone for the rest of the game, as the talented and deep defensive front controlled the line of scrimmage against an overmatched MSU offensive line. “A lot of adversity is going to come our way, but it’s about how we respond, how we take it, how many times can we get up”. They all did a good job of pushing the pocket.

PPS-This game felt like one of those times you watch your favorite wrestler get a crack at the title, only to realize about halfway through they wont win the title, making you wonder when they might.

Adam Griffith added three points with a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter. With the game tied at 10-10 in the fourth quarter, the speedy sophomore from Miami snatched an Auburn punt at midfield, veered left and darted back right, splitting would-be defenders while racing toward the pylon on the other side of the field, scoring the go-ahead touchdown.

On Dak Prescott: “Dak is probably the best mobile quarterback in the country with the way he moves”. “We still threw for over 300 yards”.
