Supervising animator Eric Goldberg told GMA that Williams was just as dynamic as the character he voiced.

Williams committed suicide past year.

“He was the Genie”, added Aladdin’s co-director and screenplay writer John Musker.

The team behind Aladdin joined Good Morning America on Friday to chat about the digital re-release as well as discuss Williams’ impact on the film.

Brad Kane and Lea Salonga, the singing voice counterparts to Aladdin and Jasmine, grabbed mics and performed the song live, proving that even over two decades later, a classic Disney song can still give us all the nostalgic feels. “It’s ideal that he played a genie because he’s kind of a genius”, says Musker.

“It was fantastic working with Robin, absolutely incredible”, said composer Alan Menken. “We knew this was going to be the magic carpet trip”.

“Fortunately he agreed to do it, and he worked so hard”, Clements recalled. We were totally walking down the plank.

The filmmakers said that they honestly would have been in “big trouble” if Williams had declined to take the role because the “whole concept was built around” him.

“There was nobody else that could be the Genie”, Clements noted. He would be going four hours straight. By the end, he was just drenched in sweat. “He would have so much energy and so much passion”.

The cast of “Aladdin” reunited on “Good Morning America” this morning (Oct. 9) to celebrate the Blu-ray release of the 1992 classic film from the treacherous Disney vault on October. 12.
