Alaska, United jets make contact on the ground at Los Angeles airport
September 14-Authorities at Los Angeles worldwide Airport are investigating what caused two commercial jetliners to clip each other on the tarmac Sunday night while hundreds of passengers were aboard each plane, airport officials said.

United Flight 1199 was arriving from Newark-Liberty global Airport and heading to Gate 73 at LAX, while Alaska Airlines Flight 543 was leaving Gate 66 and headed to Portland, Ore.
“And then they came back and said we can’t move yet because they’re connected”, Westmyer said of the planes.
Nobody was injured in the incident that took place just before 8 p.m., when the wings of a United Airlines plane going towards its gate hit the wings of an Alaska Airlines plane that was getting ready to take off, the L.A. Times reports.
A large piece of the plane was broken off, she added.
A total of 169 passengers were on board the United flight, along with six crew members. Actor Peter Cambor, who was aboard one of the jets, noted that the two were entwined following the accident.
The 182 passengers on the plane managed to continue their journey to Portland on a different aircraft around two hours later on Sunday evening.
United Airlines said its plane had been “taxiing to the gate at a low speed”.

It happened about 7:50 p.m., as both aircraft were maneuvering in an alleyway between terminals six and seven, according to LAX Public Relations Director Nancy Castles.
