So in March, there had been no decisions made about which of the singers would sing which parts of the new songs on Made in the A.M., so of course when Zayn quit, as the new songs hadn’t yet been completely nailed down, there was no issue about taking Zayn out of the equation.

“So it was kinda crucial at the time that he left that he had left (sic) otherwise it might have made things very different for us, ’cause we’d have to do a lot of re-recording of different things – more the work side of things than anything”. The song, which made its debut at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in August, was written as “a pledge to the fans, really”, Tomlinson, 23, says. “We’re in a very lucky position where we have a very loyal fan base and that was evident with the change”.

It doesn’t matter if One Direction’s album, “Made in the A.M.” refers to the aftermath of hard year or simply that it was all created in the wee hours of the morning their message is clear. Not every love song is necessarily about a person. WENN Harry Types pictured arriving at the Radio 2 studio He continued: “It’s a nervous time any time you put any of yourself out there”. Should this be their swan song, they leave on a high note.

Pegged a song for the fans, “History” could also be perceived as a song about Zayn and the boys’ history together – no, I’m not crying, you are. It’s snappy, full of life and we’re ready to party right now. It might be a little more subtle, lyrically, than “Sex on Fire” (which, according to Niall, was its direct influence), but there’s no mistaking what that little Irish horndog is saying when he writes about waking up in his T-shirt, climbing over backseats and, wanting to “touch you where your heart is”.

They could make the return, if they wanted to. Before transcending into even more detail regarding the ever moving rumor mill: “All of the rumors / All of the fights / But we always find a way to make it out alive / Thought we were going strong / Thought we were holding on / Aren’t we?” It’s a big, loud, opener that’s certain to grab the listener’s attention but will probably get lost by the time you’ve finished listening through it. “Drag Me Down” and “Perfect” were released earlier in the year as the singles from the album.
