Alcatel Vision Virtual Reality Headset Announced

The headset, known simply as Vision, opts for an over the head bracket design rather than a strap and has been created to work without the need of your smartphone.

Even though the pricing of the headset has not been announced by the company, it did say that the device will be offered with “entry-level pricing” that is readily affordable, and is expected to be between Euro 499 and Euro 599 at launch early next year. Rather, it features a pair of 3.8-inch 1080p resolution AMOLED screens for each eye and is powered by an octa-core chip with 3GB of RAM, not unlike what you’d find in most modern day smartphones.

The company claims that the wireless VR headset offers best-in-class field-of-vision of 120 degrees and lowest latency that is now available, 17 milliseconds. The headset has its own processors and can be worn comfortably for 2-3 hours, with or without glasses, said Alcatel.

Alcatel has also join hands with companies like Janut VR and Fraunhofer, which will provide pre-loaded games and other content.

The price and exact date of availability haven’t been finalized yet, but we can expect it to cost between $500 and $600.

The plug and play Alcatel 360 Camera, meanwhile, comes without a battery or Bluetooth connectivity and can be connected into smartphone via a micro-USB cable, allowing users to instantly shoot video in 360 degrees.

Alcatel on Thursday at IFA 2016 has unveiled a standalone VR headset called Vision, as well as two models of the Alcatel 360 Camera.

Both possess a dual 210° fisheye lens: a rectangular model which is about half the size of a credit card, and a ball-shaped one, about the size of a coin.
