Aldo’s coach wants rematch: ‘That happened once and won’t happen again’

McGregor, who had spent months talking smack about Aldo, admitted to feeling for the longtime 145-pound champion in the wake of the stunning win. “Jose was a phenomenal champion”.

McGregor had predicted he would beat Aldo in the first round in the build-up to the fight. Mystic Mc strikes again.

The Brazilian was sparked unconscious by a beautifully-timed left hook from the Dubliner on Saturday night. When I went to attack him he hit me with a good cross and there is where he got me. “It’s been a insane, crazy year”.

McGregor takes in the crowd after the fight.

No one will know how the fight would have gone if Aldo hadn’t been caught out, no one can say how the rematch will turn out. “I believe there are many great fighters”.

McGregor has proven to be one of UFC’s biggest draws over the past couple of years, putting on total clinics and walloping anyone that’s stepped in the Octagon with him.

McGregor looked gaunt after weighing in on Friday but dismissed suggestions he can no longer make featherweight limit safely.

McGregor is expected to move up to lightweight and fight the victor of Rafael Dos Anjos – Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17 or will fight Frank Edgar at featherweight.

While Jose may deserve a second shot at besting McGregor, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

“I’ll tell you one thing that won’t be happening”, said McGregor.

Aldo hopes his status as the division’s only other champion – he had held the belt for five years since it’s inception – will mean a rematch with the Irishman is not hard to sort out. I understand why previously they would have fighters do that, because many fighters don’t fight as frequently as I do. “I’m busy. I stay active”, McGregor said.

Kavanagh also thinks his next bout will be for the lightweight belt. After all, he opened his UFC 194 news conference by noting that the event generated a U.S.-record gate of $10.1 million. “Obviously, if that happened you’d probably do Edgar vs. Jose Aldo for the title”. If God wills it, we will come back a lot stronger, and we will bounce back.

He said: “All through the week I’m watching videos of the Irish going insane throughout Las Vegas… the Irish fans, you can’t beat them”.
