Alex Manninger training with first-team

The Daily Express report that Manninger is joining in with pre-season training at Melwood after leaving German side Augsburg following just two appearances for the club last season.

If Bogdan’s move to Wigan succeeds, it is assumed that 39-year-old former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger will be offered a deal with the Reds, after he has been sighted training with the club.

After starting his career at SV Salzburg in his homeland, Manninger played for Grazer before Arsenal signed him for £500,000 as understudy to David Seaman in 1997.

Manninger has been the reserve keeper at FC Augsburg for the past four seasons, after performing the same job for Juventus between 2008 and 2012.

Should he impress, Manninger will become third choice goalkeeper at Anfield next term behind Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, with Adam Bogdan expected to leave the club this summer.

Bogdan joined the Reds on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers last summer but the Hungarian made just six appearances for the first team and was demoted when Ward returned from his loan spell at Aberdeen.
