Alex Salmond was turned away from a British Airways flight to Scotland after booking a ticket under the alias, Captain Kirk.

Salmond, a big fan of the classic sci-fi series, has been using the alias for years in an attempt to travel incognito for security reasons.

Despite the BA employee initially refusing to check him in, Salmond later told the Mail on Sunday that everything worked out in the end. I just wanted BA to “Beam me up, Scotty”.

The member of parliament told the Mail on Sunday: “It was all sorted out”.

“Unsurprisingly, the woman on the desk refused to check him in”.

After the politician made a few phone calls and was able to present check-in staff with emails explaining the arrangement, he was finally allowed to board the flight.

A BA spokesman said: “We ask all our customers to travel under their own names to maintain the most secure travelling environment possible”.

Mr Salmond’s comments were widely discussed on social media. Eventually they let him on the plane’.

He even referenced the show’s villain after losing his fight for Scotland’s independence campaign, when he said: “The wrath if Khan will be as of nothing to the wrath of a “No” voter who has been gulled by the Westminster leadership”.
