Alexander Gustafsson Wants Rematch With Jon Jones — UFC News & Notes

It’s been an emotional past few months for UFC light-heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson. He needs a win in order to erase the bitter memory of his first-round knockout loss to Anthony Johnson at UFC on Fox in January.

Jones will appear at Albuquerque District Court at 8:30 a.m. on September 29 in front of Judge Charles W. Brown. “That’s the fight everybody wants to see”, he added. “If you look at the murderer’s row of the 205-pound division that he went through, and he just went through it like a hot knife through butter, I mean he’s the man. Whenever he gets his stuff together, he can come right back and fight for the title”. “I would do it for myself, but I would mainly do it for my fans”.

Jones had previous legal troubles because of his behavior outside of competition. Most analysts believe that the fight could have gone either way and calls for a rematch escalated. The UFC had to suspend Jones as well.

However, Jones opted to face Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 in April 2014, where the 28-year-old champion also won via unanimous decision.

Jones was stripped of that title following a vehicle accident that involved him running a red light and crashing into a pregnant lady that resulted in breaking her arm.

Jones was forced to vacate the light heavyweight championship the day after his arrest. Cormier successfully earned the belt after a third-round submission.

Plus, Rashad Evans makes his long-awaited return to the cage after a two-year hiatus to face Ryan Bader in a bout that could produce the next title challenger.
