Alexandria: Stamp Out Hunger

The National Association of Letter Carriers are holding their 24th annual food drive. Participating in the Letter Carrier Stamp out Hunger Food Drive is simple. It provides letter carriers, postal employees and volunteers the opportunity to come together to conduct the drive in their local communities. For more than a decade, the drive has annually collected more than 70 million pounds of food.

Fort Wayne’s elementary schools collectively donated more than 28,000 pounds of food.

Letter carriers in Morristown and Morris Plains are collecting non-perishable food items for the Interfaith Food Pantry on Saturday, May 14, 2016.

The residents’ generosity will help ensure that everyone in the community has food for a healthy lifestyle.

All donations of nonperishable foods will support area food banks through the Commission on Economic Opportunity Weinberg Regional Food Bank.

“We’ve done very well in Garden City”, Erwin said.

“Last year, we collected more than 266 tons of food in our statewide food drive”, said Adele Yoshikawa, Pearl City Carrier and NALC Food Drive Spokesperson.

The bags will feature the logos of UFCW Local 653 and Cub Foods and solicit donations for the food drive. We ask that our customers, friends, and families help us “Stamp Out Hunger” by supporting this drive. Many find themselves living paycheck to paycheck and have to make hard decisions about whether to pay their bills or put food on the table.

The event is always held the second Saturday of May – the time of year when food bank stocks are dwindling.
