‘Right now, I don’t know what I would do if we won the league, but maybe a tattoo!’

“The spirit between the players is sensational and, when we do suffer a blow, we are able to overcome it. That’s very important”.

On Arsenal’s hopes for the season, Sanchez added: ‘This campaign we are demonstrating that we are serious candidates for the Premier League.

“The difference is that I am attacking my 6th year here and in Ligue 1 I spent just one season. In February March, we will have Champions League so we need to take it game by game and that’s it”, he concluded. The defender was partnered by Gabriel in the game at Stamford Bridge where he was sent off after a scuffle with Diego Costa.

It was the latest incident in a long-running, bitter saga between Wenger and Jose Mourinho – who has since paid the price for Chelsea’s woeful title defence by losing his job.

Asked about his impression from when he first watched Sanchez play, Wenger said: “He was very dynamic, very direct and very straight to the point”.

“More than a manager, it’s down to the characteristics of the players”.

“I think there can be no doubt about our credentials to be champions this time”.
