Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio: A $70000, 505-hp, Italian Super Sedan

We’ve written extensively about Alfa Romeo’s new Giulia sedan but now, finally, we have the specifications for the United States-coinciding with the Los Angeles Auto Show, this week.

The midsize sport sedan aims to challenge leaders like the BMW 5-series, Cadillac CTS and Mercedes E-class. The 0-60 miles per hour time is a brief 3.8 seconds and the top speed is 191 miles per hour.

Fiat’s Alfa Romeo division has shed insight into what we can expect from the all-new 2017 Giulia when it finally touches down on our shores. The Alfa Romeo Giulia came in with a 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine that will be pushing out about 505hp and 443lb ft of torque. This model, with the six-speed manual, will likely be the model to get as it won’t be as expensive to own and run and inevitably fix and it will look just as good. Thanks to cylinder deactivation technology, the Giulia has the ability to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 percent. An all-wheel-drive setup will be available as well. Aside from the frankly evil looking fascia, with its sizable grille, bi-xenon headlamps, and LED daytime running lights, the Giulia Quadrifoglio has short overhangs and meaty rear fenders. It has a carbon fiber roof, hood, driveshaft, and front seats, with aluminum a big piece of the rest of the construction.

Brembo brakes four-piston calipers and 14.2-inch rotors at the front and 13.8-inch rear discs are standard.

Inside, there’s plenty of leather, Alcantara, aluminum, and carbon-fiber. The red engine start button is integrated to the sedan’s steering wheel, while the driver instrument panel consists of a seven-inch LCD display. Behind the wheel, is a 7-inch information display, featuring two analog gauges to give a hint of old-school Italian design. Now, do you believe why we said so?

On that score, a few longtime Alfa Romeo loyalists, known as Alfisti, are taking a wait-and-see attitude.

As our conversation came to an end, Berens conceded that there is one thing the new Giulia has over earlier Alfas.
