Woodard has 18 Emmy noms under her belt, along with arcs on ABC’s Desperate Housewives, HBO’s True Blood and TNT’s The Last Ship. However, Deadline is reporting that Woodard’s “Minetta” could actually be a cover for Luke Cage’s main Marvel Comics adversary, Black Mariah. She is said to be a very powerful woman in politics, who will have an impact on the life of Cage. In fact, Jessica Jones is the second series behind Daredevil, which premiered in April 2015. After these four shows wrap-up, they will meet together in The Defenders. It will be interesting to see where his own series takes him, and if it will be a follow-up to Jessica Jones, a prequel, or a mixture of the two.

Woodard was nominated for an Academy Award in 1983 for her supporting role in “Cross Creek“. In the comics, Black Mariah was a crime lord and drug dealer. The series will of course be available on Netflix. Cheo Hodari Coker is said to be the showrunner for the upcoming program. Colter will be kicking off his run as the superhero when the Jessica Jones episode he is featured in airs later in 2015.
