During Data Technology Day, Aliyun unveiled its full landscape of cloud-computing products and solutions, detailing how they have been used in recent years to help traditional enterprises improve the efficiency, scalability and cost-effectiveness of their I.T. platforms.
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE:BABA) steps up as a competitor to Amazon.com, Inc. “It took Amazon 10 years to get where it is today”. Revenue at the unit rose 49 percent to $1.57 billion in the March quarter.
The move is likely to pique the interest of potential customers in the United States that are anxious about the protection and ownership of their data on national cloud platforms. Within China, Aliyun is the largest public cloud service provider.
It’s an telling move by Alibaba, which has been rapidly expanding its cloud business. On Wednesday, at the cloud computing unit’s conference, Aliyun president, Simon Hu, added that as a result of the new pact, the company is set to match the Amazon services within three years, not outperform it.
Chinese cloud hosting company Alibaba has announced a Data Protection Pact that pledges to keep its clients’ data safe in an attempt to gain more European and US clients. “It took us six years, and we hope to match or even surpass Amazon in three to four years”.
“We aim to make cloud computing the engine of the data technology economy, and big data a driving force of economic development”, Hu said at the event. That guarantee may prove crucial as it competes for clients globally, given lingering concerns among many businesses about the security of data stored in remote locations.
The company didn’t specify its plans on how to secure from cyberspying and how it will deal with the request of government requests. “We do business within the scope of laws”, said chief technology officer Zhang Wensong. Whilst much smaller, Aliyun is the primary cloud service in China, so already has a tremendous customer base. In June, the Chinese e-commerce company struck a series of global partnerships that enables it to use existing data centers built by its partners to push its own services.
