Alien: Covenant Sequel Will Begin Shooting “Within 14 Months”, Says Ridley Scott

There also might be Alien movies for a good long while. Or so we’ve been told: Since the early ’90s, movies like “The Lawnmower Man” have predicted that humanity is two seconds away from strapping on bulky head gear and disappearing forever into animated realms. Scott finally gives the faithful something to sink their teeth into by offering a whole host of references to the rest of the franchise, and the references are subtle and far more fulfilling than in any of the other instalments.

What do I need to know? It takes an actor of considerable skill to play two characters who look pretty much identical and make it transparently clear which one is which. The Alien prequels are keen to take a great mythology and explain it so much that it loses all of its weight.

With this new crew, the philosophical meanderings about gods and the origins of man that weighed down the first prequel are gone – in fact, so are any long bits of dialogue, except for the “cold” opening scene, meant to show how the android David came to be.

Released nearly four decades after the original, “Alien: Covenant” is the third movie in this series directed by Scott.

Scott revisiting a franchise he started 40 years ago to subvert its history is fascinating, but is it what viewers want from an Alien movie? Does the new film bring us full circle?

There was also the confirmation that the Covenant sequel will not be titled “Awakening” as first though.

Scott clarified that there was no Alien 5. Fassbender even said that he’s already talked to Rogen about a possible comedy collaboration.

“It never happened”, he revealed.

I guess we kinda saw this coming. “But despite his involvement, he swears he did not know why the project did not push through”. “It was probably Fox’s decision finally, not mine”. That said, there is no plans right now for a continuation or a reboot of Alien v Predator.

The only people that really matter in the end are Daniels (Katherine Waterston) and Walter (Michael Fassbender), with Oram (Billy Crudup) and Tennessee (Danny McBride) being slightly larger blips on the radar.
