According to Mitchell, Aliens visited earth on peace missions to avert nuclear war between the US and Soviet Union at the start of the Cold War. “My own experience talking to people has made it clear the ETs had been attempting to keep us from going to war”.

Heady stuff indeed! Mitchell did grow up near the alien-centric Roswell in New Mexico, and he claims to have been told by Air Force officers who had UFO sightings that there were indeed such spacecraft flying around and thwarting weapons tests.
According to Mitchell, several officers posted at Pacific bases had narrated him the stories about how several American missiles were shot down by UFOs. There was a lot of activity in those days.
The UFOs were seen over the world’s first nuclear weapons test on July 16, 1945, in the desolate White Sands deserts of New Mexico.
He continued, “They wanted to know about our military capabilities”.
However, Nick Pope, Ministry of Defense UFO researcher, said that if the aliens visited us they should be more advance than human civilization.
“Edgar Mitchell is an honourable and truthful man, who I’ve had the privilege of meeting”.

And aliens that stopped war is a “nice thought”, said Pope, but “it’s nearly exactly the plot of the classic 1951 sci-fi movie The Day the Earth Stood Still“.
He apparently told the paper that he saw UFO’s flying over missile bases and the nuclear facility, the Mirror reported. “Chances are they’d be millions of years ahead of us and could do anything they wanted to”, he added. All these people were walking around saying the army threatened to kill them if they opened their mouths and ended up getting 5 grand a pop in appearance money to tell their story – apparently while remaining in good health.

Pope said it is understandable why Mitchell does not want to reveal his sources, but that makes Mitchell’s claims hard to either dismiss or prove valid.
