“It’s bittersweet that it’s ending”, Huston told the audience. She was later followed by Malik, singing “Like I Would”.
During her final round on May 23, she performed her original song “Down That Road”, a cover of “Somewhere” by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim from “West Side Story”, and a duet with her coach, Christina Aguilera, of “You’ve Got A Friend” by Carole King. Molding a singer that can become a a bona fide sensation, like “American Idol”, which drew the curtain after its 15th season earlier this year, did with Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson (and the latter two who didn’t even win).
Huston is a preschool teacher at Arnold Elementary in Lincoln.
Following her big win, she took to Twitter to thank her fans.
Porter, known for her lead role in the 1991 film “Curly Sue”, took home the big prize.
“She truly has shown me that she has such an awesome ability to do this”, Christina said.
After what was essentially an advertisement for Snapchat where Aguilera talked about her favorite ways to use the app on set, the performances continued with Laith Al-Saadi performing “Rocky Mountain Way” with one of his music heroes, Joe Walsh. “I’ve waited 30 something years”. This all came down to the showdown so many were expecting between Adam and Alisan.
Michael Slezak of TVLine pointed out that female coaches have statistically had less of a chance for their contestants to win the competition since there were fewer female coaches.
The night’s other victor was pop singer Christina Aguilera who became the first female coach to win “The Voice”. After battling her addiction and becoming sober, Porter married, had children and eventually made her way to the popular show.

“Tonight is a true victory for women” Aguilera said later, referencing that very fact, though the night belonged to Alisan first and foremost. “Oh my god”, Porter candidly said in the seconds before Daly crowned the champion.
