All gender-based restrictions have been removed from ‘The Sims’

Until now, a lot of the options in The Sims’ character creation suite were specifically restricted to either male or female Sims. The Sims” publisher Electronic Arts and developer Maxis said a free update available Thursday for “The Sims 4” will remove gender boundaries and allow players to create virtual townsfolk – or Sims, as they’re known – with any type of physique, walk style or voice they choose. In this case, players have been asking why certain hairstyles, clothing, and other options were limited to one gender or the other…

The Sims has always been this magical sandbox where you get to create the sim that you want”, Rachel Franklin, Executive Producer of The Sims 4, told BuzzFeed News. If you want your male character to wear high heels and jewelry, or to dress your new female sim in a slick three-piece suit with close-cropped hair, now you can do that.

Franklin also noted that Sims are now able to change their gender at any time, saying that she worked with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender advocacy group GLAAD to ensure the update fully encompassed the requirements of the community. And they can be as fluid as the player wants, too-the gender can be changed at any point in the game.
