All new outage woes for Telstra on ADSL and NBN

Telstra said its proposed variation to the original plan is meant to promote greater service continuity for consumers migrating to the NBN.

Telstra has made progress on fixing its fourth network problem this year but some customers remain affected by the outage.

Euphemistically, the Telstra website called this an unplanned service outage; that has been changed.

It’s the fifth outage the telco giant has experienced in the past 3 months, and came just the day after CEO Andy Penn said the telco “had so much more to do” in how it deals with customers and their issues.

We’re aware of an incident affecting NBN voice and data and ADSL customers.

Telstra announced in early May it would spend an additional AUD 50 million on its mobile network in a bid to prevent ongoing outages.

It follows network disruptions with iiNet, Virgin and Optus in the same week.

Looking at the complaints from users, EFTM believes the issue may be related to a firmware update issued last night or recently which is causing Telstra Gateway modems to reboot regularly.

“Customers with NBN voice and data services and ADSL services may be having difficulty connecting to the internet”, a Telstra spokesperson said.

It wasn’t until after 9am that the company took to social media to notify customers of the problem and post on its site.

“We apologise to customers and are doing everything possible to restore services as quickly as possible”.

By 11.30am, Telstra said significant restoration of NBN and ADSL services had occurred.
