All Whites duo didn’t vote for Messi

“It’s a very special moment for me to be back here on this stage, winning again another Ballon d’Or after seeing Cristiano win it”, Messi stated. Messi is the only football player in history to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or five times, four of which he won consecutively in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

“It is incredible that it is my fifth award, and it is much more than anything I dreamed of as a kid”.

In the women’s football, the 2015 Women’s World Cup champion US national team dominated the two major awards.

His Barcelona boss Luis Enrique won the coach of the year award while Jill Ellis took the women’s trophy. He scored 52 goals in 61 games and made 26 assists: a goal every 101 minutes, and an assist every 202 minutes.

The final three of Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. all had the opportunity to vote as they are all national team captains, and none of them voted for themselves. Ronaldo has won the previous two awards in 2013 & 2014.

Federation Internationale de Football Association announced the ideal starting 11 for the year 2015, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr.

He also added UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup winners’ medals later in the calendar year. But Messi’s contribution to Barcelona’s dominance probably helped Messi win his first Ballon in three years. But five-time Ballon d’Or victor Lionel Messi has done it recently and given it’s not your average mirror selfie, we’ll let him off.

The 23-year-old became the first Brazilian to make it on to the podium since Kaka won the award in 2007. The Portuguese worldwide was the runner-up this year, and Messi’s teammate Neymar grabbed the third position.

It was one of the biggest upsets of the night as most betting websites had tipped the Argentinean skipper to pick up the award for both the best player and the best goal of 2015.
