Allardyce gets off to winning start with England

“Everyone back home was waiting with bated breath and we scored the victor”, said Allardyce, who never featured for England as a player and has only previously managed modest domestic clubs.

Harry Kane has insisted he will silence his critics for the second time in 12 months after vowing to emerge from his England form slump.

Instead, Lallana’s late goal against Slovakia showed Allardyce he just might gain the fortuitous breaks his predecessors haven’t enjoyed.

Bayern Munich’s youngster Kimmich got the second and his first global goal following a brilliant solo effort from the right.

Last week, Allardyce confirmed that the 30-year-old striker, will remain England’s captain.

“He holds a lot more experience at global football than me as an worldwide manager”.

Also in Group F alongside England, Scotland made a winning start as a hat-trick from Hull’s Robert Snodgrass helped secure a 5-1 victory in Malta.

Rooney, who played his 116th global to become England’s most capped outfield player ahead of David Beckham, played in the midfield position where previous manager Roy Hodgson deployed him at Euro 2016.

He played a bit deeper than he does at United, but Wayne’s comfortable, when I talk to him, about the position. “They have been together for a long time with their manager and they have some good players so we knew it was going to be tough”.

‘I am using his experience to its maximum on the field as captain and football player and encouraging him to play as a captain and play very, very well which I thought he did.

Tottenham forward Kane saw his worldwide goal drought extend to six games before being substituted in the closing stages of England’s 1-0 World Cup qualification victory against Slovakia on Sunday. “You’ve got to be patient in this game and we were, and we got the victor in the end”.

After the match English head-coach Sam Allardyce stated that Rooney is free to play in any position he preferred.

And his introduction here on 64 minutes quickly turned England into a much more positive and attacking unit – he is exciting and precocious and Allardyce will surely look to get him into his side from now on, putting Rooney’s place in the team in even more doubt. It’s up to me to ask whether he’s doing well in that position and contributing.

Kane headed into the Euros as the Premier League’s top-scorer with 25 goals, but he and the rest of the England team limped out at the last-16 stage to Iceland. Allardyce seemed delighted with the player’s contribution but it was unorthodox, to say the least.

“And for ourselves as well because we were the most unhappy of everyone and there is a long way to go until we are happy again”.
