Allardyce happy seeing Stones working for Man City boss Guardiola

Former England captain John Terry could be in line for a remarkable return to worldwide football under Sam Allardyce.

With Hart out of favour, Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero has been an ever-present for Manchester City so far this season.

Allardyce has now revealed that he intends to contact Terry to see if he would be willing to make a return to the worldwide setup.

Sam Allardyce has told Sky Sports News HQ that he will select Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart in his first England squad.

Recalling a nearly-retired 35-year-old defender doesn’t exactly scream “fresh start” though, does it?

“If it’s a short period of time, maybe not”. Then they come back in the team and everything goes fine.

However, Terry turns 36 in December and faces competition from younger defenders, including John Stones, whose mixed form over the previous year did not stop Manchester City parting with £47.5million to prise him from Everton.

But he vowed to eschew a softly-softly approach and said the way to get more from the country’s under-performing players was to challenge them.

“At the moment, it’s a hard decision in the goalkeeping area, there’s no doubt about that”.

“I don’t like when you concede two goals at a free-kick and a penalty”.

“Jermain Defoe is not out of the question, I won’t say that, but whether I do that or not will depend on which other players are available. I’ve got all those scenarios to consider”.

Earlier this week, new England boss Allardyce suggested that he would speak with Terry regarding a potential return for the centre-half – with proven players at that position thin on the ground in recent years.

He was included in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad despite only making 18 appearances for Man United last season and surprised fans with his sensational arrival.

“But I want it right now and I think he (Stones) has got a great chance of becoming “right now” working with Manchester City, with all due respect to Everton”. “You have to have your doubts about that but I don’t really know where he lies in that process at the moment”.

The pacy forward has made an superb return to his best at club level after a poor European Championship and Allardyce admitted to being impressed with his response.

“In the end it is critical (that a player is playing)”, he said. “Get used to worldwide football there, play regularly there and it will help you eventually, hopefully break into Manchester United’s team and then break into the England senior team.’ You’ve got all those scenarios to consider”.
