Allardyce highlights Three Lions plans

Even though Allardyce has just taken charge, there would already be a number of fans who would expect him to turn things around and with his rather unconventional approach, they believe that he will make England tough to defeat and become one of the best teams in the world.

Allardyce has been appointed as Roy Hodgson’s replacement as head coach of the Three Lions on a two-year deal as the FA look to move on from the disastrous last-16 exit to Iceland at Euro 2016.

“It’s far too early to make any predictions”, he said.

“I think the key element for me is to get amongst all the staff that England have in place, and to talk to them thoroughly about the programme going forwards, in all areas but particularly psychologically”.

Goals from Fabio Borini and Charles N’Zogbia gave them the win ahead of their pre-season trip to the continent, and Moyes is relishing meeting up with his new players.

As well as creating a strong personal bond with his players, Allardyce signalled his intention to surround himself with a backroom team of experts.

“When it comes to winning no trophies or cups, unfortunately as an English manager I never really got the chance to go right to the top of the Premier League”. You toughen yourself for whatever job you take because you take the good with the bad.

“Style of play has always been a tag that I can’t shake”, he said.

“I think first and foremost it’s about regaining, perhaps, a bit of confidence they have lost after the Euros”.

“I think I’m at the right age, with the right experience and hopefully I can pass my knowledge and experience onto the team and the staff working behind the team”.

“The loss of form was not because of a lack of passion or desire”. I don’t know (why he did not get the job) perhaps it was political, I don’t know.

“There’s obviously a different and, without criticising the old regime too much, a much more streamlined (FA) now. With the development of this site (St George’s Park), it’s much more forward thinking than it was in 2006”.

He fully intends to carry that practice into global management.

‘Sammy is joining me, ‘ Allardyce said.

Allardyce, a vastly experienced coach at club level with Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham, has earned a reputation as a shrewd tactician but primarily as a great motivator.

“I’ve been a success at every club I’ve been at, starting with Limerick FC, by the way”, Allardyce said as his record was questioned by some journalists.

The most famous victory was in 2007 when Slaven Bilić’s side won 3-2 to end Steve McClaren’s team’s hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008. “I am relishing the challenge and excited by the opportunity”, Moyes told the club’s official website.

Allardyce also commented on the suggestion that the England job is a “poisoned chalice”, that managers are best off avoiding.
