The Chelsea captain won the last of his 78 caps in September 2012 after he was charged by the FA regarding alleged abusive and threatening behaviour towards Anton Ferdinand. “I’ll have to have that conversation if I feel that John Terry may be a possibility”, he told reporters.

Jermain Defoe has begged Sam Allardyce to give him an England recall.

“Potential?” Allardyce said. “There’s that word, but we don’t want potential, do we?”

After England’s disconcerting run at the European Championships and eventual loss to Iceland (a country that has the same population as the city of Leicester), Roy Hodgson’s decision to step down from management was inevitable.

Meanwhile, following Joe Hart’s exclusion from the three first EPL games of the season, the England number one could be on his way out.

“I’m not going to say specifically say who they are at this moment, but they will all come into play for the possible squad selection for the first get together”. That’ll be the same with most of the players when they arrive. He said it was time for the Manchester City defender to stop being regarded as a “potential” star and deliver on his talent.

“If you are playing for England, sure it’s about playing in the first XI, no matter where you play”.

“I want the thing, and right now”.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney’s future as England captain remains uncertain, with Allardyce saying he will announce his skipper this week.

The ill-feeling towards Hodgson was exacerbated as he continued to call up players who were out of form. fitness or rarely featuring for their own sides, such as Fabian Delph, Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere. “I don’t know why we can’t be flexible”, Allradyce said. “But that position may change if England’s first-choice goalkeeper since 2010 remains on the bench at Manchester City”, says the paper.
