Allardyce the ‘right person’ for England job – Mourinho

HE’S CURRENTLY IN Hartlepool as his Sunderland side play a pre-season friendly at Victoria Park tonight but the game looks like being Sam Allardyce’s last official engagement as the club’s manager.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has voiced his backing for Sunderland’s Sam Allardyce as the new England manager, despite previously criticising the way his team played.

Press Association Sport understands Allardyce is now poised to replace Hodgson after a three-man FA panel containing chief executive Martin Glenn, technical director Dan Ashworth and vice-chairman David Gill concluded its interview process.

While the focus will be on Allardyce and England, his hiring does create a problem for Sunderland.

Allardyce has coached various clubs throughout his career, including West Ham, Newcastle, Bolton and Blackburn. “Winning?” asked Eriksson, who now manages Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League. I think he is the right person.

“I am going to try to support him the best way, always having England players available for him”.

The FA began searching for a new coach three weeks ago when Hodgson’s hopes of extending his four-year stint were ended by an embarrassing loss to Iceland in the round-of-16 at Euro 2016. I never experienced so much joy in the fact that he believed if you don’t bring them through with discipline, forget about it. He was brilliant and a maestro.

“Many times Sam has had a team struggling for survival and he has done the job. I think he is a good choice but I think he needs support”, Mourinho told reporters on Thursday.

England’s early exit was disappointing because it has some good young players such as the Tottenham trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier.

“The great thing about it is it his dream job and he has the desire to succeed, so I think he will definitely do well”.

“You know exactly what you are doing and exactly what he wants when you get out onto the pitch”.
