Alleged GoPro Hero 5 leak points to some really cool new features

GoPro is rumored to be working on a new flagship camera called the Hero 5, and according to some, it could be available as early as the fourth quarter.

One of the noticeable changes is the bigger touchscreen display on the back of Hero 5. The file appears to have come from the Android version of the GoPro app, and after some digging I was able to find it in the the latest version of the app’s Android Application Package (APK) titled “add_camera_hero5.mp4”.

If the rendering is any way indicative of the Hero 5’s actual design, it’s possible the touchscreen will do away with support for the BacPac, the LCD screen you can attach to GoPros that don’t have a display. The design also has the record button upped a little on top.

Overall, it looks simpler, with quick settings for framerate and resolution and whatnot at the bottom, and standard Wi-Fi and microphone features. The real question will be whether or not there’s enough difference here to encourage people to buy a new camera. Getting detail from such a short video is hard, but it does give us an idea as to what GoPro may be about to offer consumers.

Furthermore, the demonstration revealed the process for connecting the alleged Hero 5 to mobile devices, GoPro Smart Remotes and an unannounced system known as GoPro Sniper.

The Hero 5 is also expected to gain from the improvements seen in battery technology, meaning it could get a 2800mAh power pack, which would enable it to last much longer than previous cameras.

However, in the event that GoPro Hero 5 will, indeed, be bundled with Karma, gadget fanatics can expect the price to hit more than double at least.

However, it is not the only said feature that will make GoPro rise above the market competition; in addition to being capable of live-streaming, rumor has it that the upcoming GoPro Hero 5 is capable of recording 3D videos, too, something that makes it another first in its target market.
