Among the new cities on the airline’s route map: New York City, via Newark, New Jersey’s Liberty International Airport, and Denver with December 14 to March 25 seasonal service to Montrose, Colorado, which has eight ski resorts within a three-hour drive.

“We’re very excited to add The Big Apple as a new destination for Knoxville travelers to take advantage of this holiday season”, said Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer.

The new route will launch just before the holiday travel season.

Allegiant is also offering one-way fares on the route for as low as $45.

It will be Allegiant’s first flights in the New York City market, said Lukas Johnson, a vice president for parent Allegiant Travel Co. Rival ultra-discounters Spirit Airlines Inc. and Frontier Airlines Holdings Inc. serve New York’s LaGuardia airport, where flights remain limited.

In May, Allegiant began year-round nonstop service to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and seasonal service from May 20 to August 16 to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Beginning Nov. 16, Allegiant will begin routes to Newark from Cincinnati and Savannah, Ga.

The new year-round flight will run three times every week starting on November 17.
