More than 130 flights have been canceled at O’Hare as of 7:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the city’s Department of Aviation.

The IL Tollway, which maintains interstate tollways in 11 counties of the state, said it had 185 snowplows ready to go and 84,000 tons of salt stockpiled for the winter. The airport had received 7 inches by midday Saturday.

The first snowfall of the season brought amounts ranging from a few inches to 20 from South Dakota through MI earlier in the weekend.

In northern suburbs of Chicago, snow totals topped forecasts of six inches to 10 inches.

In the northern IN city of LaPorte, the storm had dropped about four inches of snow by noon Saturday.

Alizha Demunck, who works at the Little Chocolates candy store, says the snow wasn’t slowing shoppers from seeking out handmade chocolates. It doesn’t keep records for two-day snowfalls. Indianapolis was expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of snow.

Storm warnings and advisories were issued throughout northern IN and Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.

The National Weather Service said Saturday the storm is the second largest Chicago has seen ever in November. Snow accumulates in a tree during the first snow of the season Friday, November 20, 2015, in Sioux Falls, S.D. “I was here at 5 a.m. but not much of the snow was sticking”. Mott says rain will begin on Wednesday and continue at least through Friday.

Chicagoans are used to easing in slowly to winter.

Midway worldwide Airport, which is in the southeast part of Chicago, only had about 100 departing and arriving flights that had been canceled by Saturday morning.

“Northern IN, we’re used to snow”. The highest snowfall in the state was 17 inches recorded in the far northwestern corner, the weather service said. But it also fashioned a wintry backdrop to the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, transporting Chicagoans into a life-sized holiday snow globe.

The storm system is moving east and will last through Saturday evening when it tails through MI, according to Richard Otto, lead forecaster at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Weather Prediction Center.
