Alshon Jeffery muted for Bears in second half after marvelous first

The Bears had a 14-10 lead at the time and the offense was looking to increase their lead. “If they ruled it a first down, if there’s not irrefutable evidence, it doesn’t change”.

As with every game, the inactives were revealed about an hour before kickoff.

Before he trudged off the field following his first interception of the season Sunday, Jay Cutler lowered his head in disgust and pointed to where Kevin White was supposed to be. But starting cornerback Kyle Fuller was ruled out, and the Bears didn’t name his replacement right away.

– Upon further review, John Fox absolutely should have challenged the spot on Brock Osweiler’s QB sneak on 3rd-and-1. The NFL Competition Committee is trying to help you out here, Bears. Lance Briggs, one of Gould’s former teammates, wasn’t buying management’s rationale that the team needed to get younger.

I’m not really sure what to make of the offensive line. A message from President Obama played on the video screen in Houston thanked first responders and soldiers and expressed condolences for all whose lives were affected by that dark day. Houston is hoping that it does not end up being the case. The Bears followed that up with a touchdown drive of their own. Our confidence wasn’t exactly skyrocketing at this point.

Jay Cutler was a B. While his numbers – 16-of-29, 216 yards, 7.4 yards per attempt, one touchdown, one interception and a 76.2 passer rating – were uninspiring, he was sacked five times, absorbed eight additional hits and with the Texans’ eight tackles for loss, he spent too much of the afternoon in hard second- and third-and-long situations.

If push comes to shove, it’s not a stretch to think the Bears will support White, even though Cutler is the quarterback.

Fangio seemed to be moving Floyd all over the defense, utilizing his speed and athleticism in both coverage and the pass rush. Hey, the more opponents underestimate Jeffery, the better.

On their 3rd drive, a red zone trip was thwarted by a DeAndre Hopkins offensive pass interference call. Just let them raise their hands in the “touchdown” sign already! “It was Cody’s first game out there, and (Sitton) has been with us four or five days”. All of Jay Cutler’s guaranteed money ends after this season. Freeman then celebrated in the direction of the Bears sideline. 14 times! and expect to make the playoffs.

But one person can take only so much punishment. Either that or Long was showing him how to break a board, martial arts-style. The Texans took the lead for good on Will Fuller’s touchdown on the next possession. Fortunately, we were able to get the check in there. For a split-second there, we thought Hoyer would be coming in off the bench. Among the 13 hits were five sacks – three of which came in the final ten minutes of the game and one almost forced a turnover. Nobody needs to see that again.

Whitney Mercilus’ second sack was the beginning of the end for the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The second play was Nick Novak’s 28-yard field goal that fluttered over the cross bar after it was deflected by Sherrick McManis. The Philadelphia Eagles ground game is averaging 133 yards per contest, and Ryan Mathews leads the way with 77 yards and one touchdown. Keep doing you, Jay. Feeding Miller the ball so often opened up the passing game, and Fuller exploited the Bears’ attention on De’Andre Hopkins to catch five balls for 107 yards and a touchdown. That tells you how the league values him. Maybe study on the way home, Kevin. The Bears struggled defensively as well. That was the Texans’ biggest gain on their game-sealing field-goal drive.

OK, so that’s a bit dramatic.

The Bears’ much improved defensive front was not very good against the Texas.

Sadly, there were no second-half highlights on offense – or points – and several of the Bears’ flaws were magnified. At least they have an extra day to prepare for their home opener September 19.
