Altherr homers twice in Phillies’ 8-2 win over Nationals
The German-born outfielder added a solo home run later in the game to give him 5 for his career and move him into sole possession of 7th place on the all-time list of players born in Germany. Some days I didn’t have it, some days I was good.

His next time up, Altherr homered over the fence.
Zimmermann’s 2015 regular season home finale was less memorable than a year ago, when he tossed a no-hitter on the final day of the season.
Zimmermann did actually receive an ovation on his way from the bullpen to the dugout before the start even began, and it was something he acknowledged he heard and appreciated. He was pinch hit for with a man on and Washington trailing 6-1 in the fifth.
Washington’s Michael A. Taylor never had a chance to make a play after his attempt at a diving catch came up empty.
The ball rolled to the warning track and Werth retrieved it, but the relays were too late and Altherr raced around the bases to complete the rare inside-the-park grand slam. It was the 14th inside-the-park grand slam in Phillies history and first since Ted Kazanski in 1956.
Last inside-the-park grand slam in the majors: Randy Winn for Rays, final day of 1999 season. “Hopefully I can keep riding that feeling the rest of the year”. It was the Phillies’ first inside-the-park homer since July 31, 2012, when Jimmy Rollins hit one. Yunel Escobar leads Washington with 168 hits and 56 RBI while Bryce Harper and Ian Desmond have combined for 155 RBI.

Phillies: 1B Ryan Howard (knee) took batting practice Friday. “I know he’s appealed”, Washington manager Matt Williams said of his closer. Eickhoff blanked the Atlanta Braves on five hits over seven innings last time out after limiting the Chicago Cubs to one run on three hits over seven innings in his previous turn. He finished with four hits and five RBIs in Philly’s 8-2 victory. Washington RHP Stephen Strasburg (10-7, 3.81) will face Phillies RHP Aaron Nola (6-2, 3.84) on Saturday….
