Aly Raisman Executes Near-Perfect Beam Routine in All-Around Final

She even blasts Ron for saying such negative things about her on national television.

The U.S.’ Simone Biles, who has gone undefeated in the all-around since 2013 and has won three consecutive all-around titles at the world championships, became the 2016 Rio Olympic all-around champion after a hard-fought competition.

Congratulations are in order: To Fiji, who just won its first-ever Olympic medal, a gold, in rugby.

She can win three more gold medals this Olympics, too.

“I’ve finally done it”, Biles said. To me, I’m just the same Simone.

“Some of us don’t really even pay attention to the scores”.

Biles trailed Mustafina by 0.034 after the second rotation, during which both were on uneven bars. If you did more hard moves you wouldn’t get credit for it so why take the risk.

United States gymnast Simone Biles competes in the beam event of the women’s individual all-around final of the Artistic Gymnastics at the Olympic Arena. A portion of her floor exercise routine – the one that includes her signature tumbling pass – is set to Latin music that would fit right in on the street outside the Rio Olympic Arena.

A reporter asked Biles if she was happy with her performance.

Home favourite Jade Barbosa of Brazil had to bow out of the competition after hurting her foot during her floor routine. She then hugged Oleksiak, 16, in the water.

When the Ohio-native was two, she was put in foster care because her mom – Shannon Biles – struggled with drug abuse.

“Coming into this race tonight, I tried to take the weight of the black community off my shoulders, which is something I carry with me, just being in this position”, she said.

The 19-year-old gymnast is competing at the Olympics for the first time. And the whole entire day we were hugging each other and telling each other we love each other.

“We are like sisters”.

And Raisman pointed out how warmly the two Americans were treated by the spectators.

“When I first came back, all the media and everyone looked at me like I was insane that I was really going to come back”, said Raisman. It’s only the second time that two US gymnasts have finished 1-2 in an Olympic all-around, after Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

There are some athletes which struggle to live up to the hype – but in Rio it was the hype which failed to keep up with Simone Biles. You could hear the partisan crowd gasp. She burst into tears when her final total was posted and her long journey to this moment ended.

The highest finishing Brazilian gymnast was Rebeca Andrade in 11 place (56.965).
