Amanda: Rain and rumbles tonight, turning colder Wednesday

Early Saturday morning a cold front will then sweep through the region bringing with it a line of strong to possibility severe storms similar to what we saw Tuesday evening. Could this be the last chance in this series of snow opportunities, or even the last chance of snow for the season?

Some lingering mountain showers in the morning, then dry and slightly warmer conditions are ahead for your Sunday afternoon. As of now, northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas could see a trace to an inch of snow. We will continue to stay dry with relatively low humidity.

For starters, it’s April.

The rest of the work week looks pretty good with sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday and partly cloudy skies with maybe spotty shower for Friday. Monday we will only be in the 50s with a 60% chance of rain and Tuesday we will be warmer in the 60s but a 40% chance of rain. This weekend into next week will see the arrival of a couple of storm systems that will keep rain coverage possible from Saturday through Monday.

“Normal highs in Elmira, Guelph, Kitchener would be a high of plus-7, not plus-2, plus-3, plus-1”, said Phillips of the current forecasts. At times there may be a few more clouds, making it seem cloudy, but those should not stick around for too long. A weak low pressure from the southwest could produce some light snow late Saturday.

Meteorologist with Met Eireann, Liz Gavin, said that heavy rain will make its way up from the south of the country by this afternoon, with significant showers expected right across the country.

If the system is faster and rain clears early, it might cut Richmond off from seeing any flakes. Behind the cold front, a reinforcing shot of cold air will build in on a northerly wind flow. Highs are still quite chilly and only bump up to the lower 40s.

Despite the increase in clouds during the day, rain will generally hold off until Saturday outside of the mountains.

Friday morning will be below freezing everywhere. A hard freeze is possible with lows 25-32 degrees.
