Amazon Added 3 Million Prime Members Before Christmas
This information comes from a wider Amazon announcement that detailed the company’s “record-breaking holiday season”. A record number of movies were watched on the service, with the most viewed – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 – appearing to be a victory over major rival Netflix, which lost the United States streaming rights to the wildly popular movie series in August.

Prime is the bread and butter of Amazon’s business, with members having access to various benefits such as free shipping in exchange for a $99 annual fee. However, Amazon did not break that figure down into how many shoppers actually made mobile purchases compared to those who browsed on a mobile device and bought through another channel.
The three million new Amazon Prime subscribers bring the total user base to “tens of millions of members worldwide”, according to the company.
Amazon touted the impact of mobile commerce on its 21st holiday season, reporting that almost 70% of its customers shopped using a mobile device. The company also says a record number of items shipped via Prime. “On behalf of Amazon employees around the world, we wish everyone happy holidays and the very best for the coming year”, Bezos added. The Fire tablet, Amazon Echo and Fire TV Stick were three of the top five items ordered on Christmas Eve through Prime Now. The order was delivered in Phoenix by 2:59 p.m.
More Amazon products found their way under Christmas trees this year, as twice as many devices were sold vs. last year.

But Amazon stayed vague and didn’t give specific sales numbers for its devices.
