Amazon attempting to shorten standard 40-hour work week

The Washington Post reported the employees will receive the same benefits, but because they’re working 75 percent of the normal hours, they will get 75 percent of the pay. The part-time employees will be salaried and receive the same benefits package as 40-hour per week workers, but they will only receive 75 percent of the pay that full-time workers earn.

“We want to create a work environment that is tailored to a reduced schedule and still fosters success and career growth”, states a posting by the company on Eventbrite.com for an informational seminar. However, the difference that this pilot program will see is an entire team of workers, including managers, who all work reduced hours for the company.

The Washington Post reports that the program will cover “a few dozen” of the retailer’s human resources team, who will earn 75 per cent of what their full-time counterparts earn.

The Express Tribune reports that in a statement from Amazon, the company shared that this particular initiative has been created in an effort to try to keep the diverse workforce they employ in mind. According to the Amazon spokesman, there are no plans to offer the 30-hour workweek companywide.
