Amazon Dash gets 11 new ways to make you a repeat customer
Amazon on Thursday said it added 11 new device makers to its Dash Replenishment Service program, which helps companies create Internet-connected products that automatically reorder supplies from Amazon when they are running low.

Earlier this year, Amazon announced initial partners integrating with the Dash Replenishment Service, including Brother, Whirlpool, and Brita. “For device makers, DRS makes it easy to add reordering functionality to their devices”. Supported brands include Gillette, Tide, Gatorade, Clorox, and Ziploc.
Separately, in an eyebrow-raising move, Amazon has told marketplace sellers it won’t allow Apple TV set-tops and Google’s Chromecast HDMI stick to be sold on its site as of October 29, The Fire TV vendor claims the move is due to the fact Apple TV/Chromecast don’t “interact well” with Prime Video.
For example, Obe’s Pro Bowl weighs the amount of food consumed by a pet and subtracts that amount from the in-home inventory balance. The new partners can build this technology into products so that customers can use the tech to automatically reorder from Amazon.
General Electric-GE’s new, high-efficiency washer will offer Wi-Fi capability and an app allowing customers to manage laundry tasks from their smartphones.
I might criticize the Amazon Dash Button, but it’s not because I think it’s a awful idea.
August will provide a smart lock that will automatically order batteries and notify customers when there needs to be a change. In other words, you’ll never have to worry about running low on detergent ever again. “Dash Replenishment Service aligns with our commitment to use technology to deliver more convenience and control for our customers”, said Nate Williams, Head of Business Development for August. We’d rather our washing machine stock up on more items when it’s smarter to do so than order full-price items only when they’re needed.

All of these partnerships embed Amazon in more and more devices around the home and ensure that Amazon is deeply integrated into every part of consumers’ lives. Pet feeders from Obe, Petnet, and Oster can order pet food, Samsung laser printers will be able to order ink cartridges, and Sealed Air’s hand soap dispensers will order their own hand soap or sanitizer.
