Amazon Finally Made the Dash Button We’ve Wanted All Along

Amazon Web Services has launched an ephemeral “easy button” for the Internet of Things (IoT) which builds on its Dash button, a piece of hardware it launched previous year for users to order single items with one click.

Ask people how they feel about the Amazon Dash button and you get a pretty black or white answer: either it’s the greatest convenience ever made, or it’s so lazily single-purpose, there’s no point. Some suggestions by Amazon include programming a Philips Hue light bulb button, a pizza order-on-demand button, Airbnb check in and out button, and a Netflix on/off switch.

There will be a need to configure the IoT buttons with AWS frameworks, available free for use.

Basically, the new repurposed item from Amazon is a “Do Anything” button. Amazon has * a href=”http://www.amazon.com/AWS-IoT-Button-Limited-Programmable/dp/B01C7WE5WM?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0″ target=”_blank” *already sold out of the $20 device after less than a day on the market.

The company has already seen success in controlling smart-home features with Alexa integrations, but adding physical buttons may help Amazon reach into even more homes.

The new buttons are called “AWS IoT Buttons”; with “AWS” standing for Amazon Web Services, and “IoT” being an acronym for the rapidly-growing “Internet of Things” ecosystem of cloud-connected devices and services. “The AWS IoT Button is in the same form factor as the Dash, but serves as a physical button to connect with digital services instead”, according to a news report published by Geek Wire. Also, it can be integrated with Facebook, Twitter, or Slack. It’s mustering developers to identify the possible good uses of the button.
