Amazon, which has just launched same-day grocery deliveries in the capital, already runs restaurant deliveries in 12 U.S. cities, including New York, Los Angeles and its hometown Seattle, where it says delivery times have been shaved to 45 minutes on average.

Amazon has launched its Amazon Restaurants delivery service in London.
Customers can use the Prime app to view participating restaurants, browse menus, place orders and track their deliveries in real time.
The “Amazon Restaurants” service is available in a handful of postcodes via the Prime Now app, which launched in the United Kingdom in 2015 and enables Prime members in nine urban areas across the United Kingdom to get one and two-hour delivery on over 15,000 products.
Delivery is free with an order worth a minimum of £15 for Prime subscribers, but to entice users to try out the service Amazon is offering £10 off their first order using the code AMAZON10.
Some of the restaurants listed on the app include Italian chain Strada, Indian restaurant Benares and healthy eating firms like Pod. In June, Uber brought its UberEATS service to London.
Amazon launched its Prime Now “ultra fast” delivery service in London in 2015, and in June this year it introduced its AmazonFresh grocery delivery service to the United Kingdom capital.
But the London market already has some major players.
Amazon Prime membership grew by 51% past year.
“Home delivery is something we have long considered but haven’t been confident that the food would arrive in best condition”, said Daniel Creedon, Head Chef and manager of Archipelago.
