Amazon Now Offering Monthly Prime Subscriptions In The US

Amazon offering a dedicated video streaming subscription service is a clear attempt to catch up with Netflix, which has led the way in video streaming by offering a monthly service while also spending big on original content such as House of Cards, and Marvel superhero spin-off series including Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

As well as unlimited video streaming, this also included benefits such as free two-day shipping from Amazon and unlimited music streaming.

However, Amazon is taking its video service seriously as it expands the amount of its content available for streaming.

Amazon is taking direct aim at Netflix with a new pricing scheme for its video streaming service that’s cheaper and more flexible than its competitor.

Previously, US users had to stump up $100 (£97) a year for access to the super-speedy delivery service and video package.

The Seattle online retailer said Sunday it will begin offering its video-streaming service as a stand-alone option for the first time. In the USA, subscribers can now choose to pay monthly for the service too. Longtime subscribers to Netflix’s standard plan who were paying $7.99 a month were also recently informed that they would start paying $9.99 a month from May. What do you think of Amazon’s new monthly plans?

Ever since it launched in 2005 (yes, it really has been that long), Amazon’s premium subscription service has required customers to stump up the full amount up front. Amazon doesn’t disclose its Prime membership totals, but estimates range from 40 million to 60 million world-wide.

Amazon is going to war with Netflix.
