Amazon Opens Its First Physical Bookstore in Seattle, but Still Encourages
“Amazon says the books in its store are the best of the best: “[They’re] selected based on Amazon.com customer ratings, pre-orders, sales, popularity on Goodreads, and our curators’ assessments”.

“We realized that we felt sorry for the books that were spine out”, Cast told the Seattle Times.
Amazon Books, as the new store is called, will be like any other Main Street bookstore (remember those?), except that Amazon will use the troves of data it collects from its online customers to stock the shelves.
In addition to books, customers can try to buy Amazon’s devices from across the Kindle, Echo, Fire TV and Fire Tablet ranges.
Amazon, the company that helped put so many brick-and-mortar bookstores out of business, is… opening a new brick-and-mortar bookstore. The store will be open 7 days a week for purchases except it will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas days. The online giant has made a decision to take their book selling to the streets – literally.
Visitors to the 7,400-square-foot Amazon book store would have done well to bring their smartphone with them and have the Amazon app on hand.

The store will be a permanent location, not just a pop-up shop.
The store, located in University Village, seems mostly to be a vanity project for Amazon in its hometown.
Peter Aaron, owner of Seattle’s independent Elliott Bay Book Co., which offers about 160,000 books, said he wasn’t sure what to make of the move by the online retailer.
“We’re completely focused on this bookstore”, Cast said.
The Seattle-based company did not explain its strategy in opening the store or say whether it would open more retail locations.
