Amazon plans to sell own clothing brands
While speaking at the WWD Apparel and Retail CEO Summit, Jeff Yurcisin, vice president of clothing at Amazon Fashion, admitted their company is built on brands and that’s the reason why people come to Amazon to shop, according to the report. Amazon, which has been buckling down for a considerable span to develop Amazon Fashion, envisions offering its own private-mark garments marks, an official said to Media persons.

Amazon has a reputation for experimenting with different products. Now the online retail giant may soon add clothing to that list, according to a BuzzFeed report. Amazon has focused on food and garments as two of its real development opportunities in coming years, and in late may the Wall Street Journal reported that the organization was preparing to dispatch various private-mark basic need items.
The remark is significant given Amazon Fashion’s efforts have centered around convincing clothing brands to sell their goods on a website better known for its low prices and efficiency over, say, presentation and curation.
As the trend of online shopping is growing strong, consumers do not stick with one website but have an open attitude towards switching retailers.
However, Amazon clarified that the initiative will surely not affect its partners in anyway.
A proprietary clothing line could offer Amazon a major boost, considering that it’s already on track to become the largest clothing retailer in the U.S. in the next few years.
In defending the company on that front, Yurcisin said “We work just like any other retailer – we buy at full price, try super-hard to sell at full-price… then we follow a traditional markdown cadence”. The VP of Clothing at Amazon Fashion told attendees that their brands make up the “lion’s share” of its business.

The company certainly seems enthusiastic about the plan. While private labels might “fill in gaps” in the short term, if they proved successful, would they begin cutting in to third-party brands on its marketplace – the brands that would most likely have contributed to Amazon Fashion’s success in the first place?
