If this sounds like magic, you’re not alone.

And customers in Edgware, Enfield and Watford can now access two-hour same day delivery slots between 8am and midnight.

Long term, there’s even more for carrier partners to worry about – Amazon has been very public about its efforts to create a drone-based delivery fleet, and it’s also reportedly looking into driverless vehicle tech via tie-ups with Fiat Chrysler and others.

In 2015, the company spent $11.5 billion on shipping, which is almost twice what it did two years ago. On top of that, Amazon has been making a number of moves that signal it may be planning to build its own delivery network akin to that of FedEx or UPS, although the company denies it. A list of participating restaurants is available through the Prime Now app and website.

The online retail giant is continuing its expansion into a new arena: restaurant deliveries. According to the Bloomberg story, FedEx and other last-mile delivery companies are publicly shrugging off Amazon’s delivery ambitions as non-material, but are “less confident in private”.
