Whilst Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are launching a new motoring show on Amazon, the BBC has signed a deal with Netflix to bring the new Top Gear show to fans around the world.

At this point, we still don’t know a lot of details about the series, but we are assuming it will be a lot like Top Gear.

Both programmes are set to make their debuts later this year, and will be streamed online by their respective video websites and apps. ‘So in many parts of the world we already have it picked up and we’ll continue to talk to them about doing it as well.

Sarandos was asked about whether Top Gear will be broadcasted globally.

We’ll be sure to update you on the Top Gear release date on Netflix.

If the news is true, it would mean the new Top Gear show directly competes with the unnamed Amazon rival, which will air on Amazon Prime in the Autumn.

Sarandos couldn’t confirm whether it will be available in every country, but did say it will be multi-territory. In the teaser, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May spit-ball some new names for the series.

‘They bid themselves out to many people and to the highest price, like most creators do, ‘ he said.

“It’s a natural process and Amazon paid the highest price”, he added, a figure rumoured to be around £160 million for 36 episodes split across three seasons.

Whatever the case, it certainly heats up the competition between Netflix and Amazon.
